Note

William Hatch Conklin, son of David and Freelove (Martin) Conkling was born on 9 March 1823, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He married Elizabeth Windlan, daughter of Mr. Windlan and Elizabeth (Tindall) Windlan, on 24 January 1846. Her last name is found in some records as Windling and Wineland. The 1842 Cincinnati City Directory shows William living with his brother, Joseph Conklin. William worked as a bricklayer for several years. In 1855, William H. Conklin and Pierson Conklin (probably the son of Isaac) operated a wood business in Cincinnati. In 1859, the city directory shows that William H. Conkling lived at 170 Richmond and was a wine and liquors merchant and manufacturer of vinegar. His brothers Jeremiah and Henry also spent time in the business. Between 1855 and 1858 William purchased several pieces of real estate in Cincinnati from the estate of his father. The 1860 Cincinnati City Directory lists his company as “commercial merchants and rectifiers”. William died of paralysis on 12 August 1891, in Marion (Grant County), Indiana and is buried at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was apparently visiting at the time of his death as cemetery records list his last place of residence as Cincinnati. Elizabeth was born on 11 October 1824 in the West End, Cincinnati, Ohio and died on 6 September 1910 in Olean, New York. She is buried at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati. Cemetery records list her last place of residence as Riddle Road in Cincinnati and Olean, New York.
